40 teams from other districts monitor rehabilitation

Vizianagargam: The Hudhud cyclone had devastated Vizianagaram district on Sunday. Villages in sea coast areas yet to recover from the heavy storm and are still shivering with fear.

As per the official information five persons died in various flood-related incidents. Still the villages are under the cyclone effect. The senior citizens say that the district had never faced such a disaster.

The government had recognised the damage that had occurred in the district and sent special teams to monitor the relief works in the affected areas. As per the government orders, P.A.Sobha was appointed as officer on special duty to the district and A. Rama Rao is appointed to supervise the rehabitation works in the villages.

Around 40 teams from other districts have come to Vizianagaram to enumerate the loss here. The district is badly affected with the downpour and unaccountable number of trees were uprooted. Thousands of acres of crops are submerged.

Around 700 houses were damaged due to the cyclone impact. Around 850 electric polls were uprooted and 10 power transformers were damaged. Still the authorities have been running around 12 rehabitation camps and providing shelter for around 17,000 people and around 85,000 food packets were distributed to the victims.

Roads in 46 places and 19 tanks, which are useful for agriculture were damaged. Around 140 fishing boats and 250 fishing nets were washed away during the storm.

Apart from this, 110 buffaloes and 525 goats were killed during the calamity. Around 73 drinking water schemes were also ruined.

Around 10,000 trees were uprooted and all the important roads were blocked with the fallen trees. The roads and buildings department is busy with removing them with machinery.

Horticulture crops in 11,350 hectares were damaged. Mango and cashew, papaya, banana gardens in Garividi, S.Kota, L.Kota, Makkuva, Cheep-urupally, Kothavalasa and Gajapathinagaram mandals were damaged and the farmers said that they would be unable to recover from this unless the government helps them.
