Hyderabad: The Telangana State government’s decision to reverse some of the exam reforms for Classes IX and X might spell trouble. The government had earlier decided to eliminate composite Sanskrit and Telugu as a subject in the reforms, but later decided to re-introduce the subject “owing to recommendations from officials in the Chief Minister’s Office.” With one-third of the academic year gone, and internal exams around the corner, re-introduction of the subjects is a major cause of concern for the officials.
The state board syllabus had Telugu and a composite Telugu with Sanskrit as separate subjects. But reforms, introduced after much delay, scrapped the composite Sanskrit and Telugu citing that they served no purpose. This, at a time when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is stressing on increasing Sanskrit study in schools.
Now, the state government has decided to bring back the subjects owing to the “recommendations from some highly placed officials in the Chief Minister’s Office.”
“How can the government take such a decision at this time? It is completely impractical and impossible to introduce a subject mid-year. How will we award internal marks when exams are already over?,” said a senior official from the examinations department said.
