Probe ordered into doctors’ mass leave

Almost 40 surgeries were postponed after the doctors took mass leave
Kottayam: Though the government has asked Kottayam MCH principal Dr Ramla Beevi to conduct a probe into the mass leave taken by anaesthetists resulting in the postponement of the surgeries slated to be held on Saturday last, the probe is yet to be started.
“This is because the written order for the probe has not reached the hospital,” Dr Ramla Beevi told Deccan Chronicle. Once she received the order, she would carry out the probe, she said.
Almost 40 surgeries were postponed after the doctors took mass leave to attend a conference in Kochi. The incident had triggered a huge public protest and Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar ordered a probe into the incident.
Dr Ramla Beevi said that the doctors had taken leave with prior permission and joined duty on Sunday itself. “All the doctors are now on duty,” she said.
According to MCH sources, many patients who were given dates for the operations on Saturday arrived at the hospital and left without doing the surgeries.
