Vizianagaram: Hudhud cyclone had pushed the district into deep dark for the second day also. The APTransco authorities have rushed to the villages and towns where the polls were uprooted.
Trees in large number have fallen on the wires. As a result, the polls were also uprooted. Though the Transco authorities are working all through the day, they are unable assure when the problem is going to be solved.
Assistant engineer of Pusapatirega mandal K. Jyotheswara Rao said, “We are working seriously to give power supply to the public as soon as possible. But the situation seems not so easy to accomplish. Hundreds of polls were uprooted. It takes some time to reinstall them.”
As a result, the public was forced to spend in the dark at night on Monday. The people who can afford are going in for generators on hire for their flats and houses for power supply.
Based on the demand, the suppliers of the generators have hiked the rent per day. They are demanding around Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 per day.
Even the cellphone network is also not working as a huge number of towers were damaged under the impact of the storm. The public don’t have an option to charge their cellphones also due to lack of power supply.
Milk packets became costlier than in the regular days. Packet of half liter milk costs around Rs 30 in shops. Vegetables and essentials are also being sold at a high price.
A cup of tea is being sold at Rs 10 whereas its regular cost is Rs 5 and tomatoes are being sold at Rs 50. Petrol and diesel are also being sold by unauthorised vendors at double the original cost as a large number of petrol pumps remained closed on Monday.
