Kerala Congress leaders welcomes Shashi Tharoor's removal decision
Thiruvananthapuram:Congress leaders in the state have welcomed the decision of the high command to remove Mr Shashi Tharoor MP from the post of AICC spokesperson. “The high command action is appropriate and I welcome it,” KPCC chief V.M. Sudheeran told reporters here.
KPCC vice-president M.M. Hassan too said the action was apt and added that Mr Tharoor would now stop eulogising Mr Modi.
“The KPCC had not recommended any stringent action against Tharoor, but only appropriate action. Now we hope that Tharoor will stop adulating Modi,” he said.
KPCC general secretary M. Liju, who was the first to criticise Mr Tharoor when the controversy broke out, also welcomed the action.
In fact, this was for the first time that a unanimous decision was taken by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Mr Sudheeran and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala recommending action against Mr Shashi Tharoor for his endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat campaign.’ The KPCC had referred its report against Mr Tharoor to the AICC’s disciplinary action committee headed by senior Congress leader A.K. Antony and consisting of Mr Motilal Vohra and Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde as members.
The AICC action comes even as there is demand for a fresh probe into the death of Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar.
