Engineering students help out MC patients

TMS has demonstrated over the years the dedication of its organisers towards social development
THRISSUR: As a part of the social responsibility segment of the Thrissur Motor Show (TMS), an auto-expo conducted by the students of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Government Engineering College, Thrissur, around 70 of its students embarked on a noble mission to improve the facilities and conveniences for Medical College patients and their families.
Rather than being just a display of wonders from the automobile world, TMS has demonstrated over the years the dedication of its organisers towards social development. Towards this central goal, students tackled the damaged non-medical equipment armed with the necessary gear ranging from the humble screwdriver to portable welding machines.
The hallways were soon a hub of activity with students applying their engineering knowledge in a practical situation. Volunteers set about sprucing up obsolete gurneys, chairs, desks, instrument trolleys and wheelchairs with gusto while bystanders cheered them on. To top it all off, the students gave the repaired equipment a fresh coat of paint to restore them to their initial glory. Signboards were also installed at strategic locations in the Medical College grounds for the convenience of visitors.
According to Anand Krishnan, students coordinator, TMS is an auto-expo conducted by the students of the college in which a dazzling array of luxury supercars, vintage beauties, modified cars, superbikes and even bike-stunt shows are displayed. It is set to kick off on October 16 at Thekkinkad Maidan in Swaraj Round.
