KOCHI: The head of the Microbiology Department of Ernakulam Government Medical College (EMC) who examined the swab taken from the closed operation theatres, detected the growth of organisms in one of the samples. He tested a total of 40 samples.
“We have received such a report and the two operation theatres closed, will be opened only after all the results are found to be negative. We will fumigate the theatres and make sure
that everything is completely safe”, said EMC principal Dr Praveen Lal.
Meanwhile, the two-member team from Kottayam Medical College, comprising the HoD of cardiology and a professor of microbiology, who was supposed to inspect the operation theatres at EMC, did not turn up.
The team had been appointed by the Director of Medical Education following reports of infection from orthopedic and gynecology operation theatres at the college. Dr Praveen Lal said he was not told why the team had cancelled its visit.
