Sexual assault: CID to question Ragheshwara Bharathi Swami today
Bengaluru: It looked like Monday was not a good day for Ragheshwara Bharathi Swami of Ramachandrapura Math to appear before the CID officials for questioning.
Though the seer claimed to have set off to the city from Honnavar early in the morning, he reached the city only quite late on Monday and went straight to his math in Girinagar. The seer's advocates had approached the CID for postponing the questioning session to Tuesday. Sources said that the advocates were heard telling the CID officials that Monday was not an auspicious day for the swami to attend the questioning session.
The CID served summons to the seer on Sunday asking him to appear before the investigating agency for questioning on Monday. The CID is looking into a complaint lodged by the daughter of a 47-year-old singer, who has allegedly sexually abused by the seer. The woman has alleged that the seer had taken her mother to different places under the pretext of singing in Ramakathas and raped her several times.
Meanwhile, a city civil and sessions court on Monday granted an anticipatory bail of 20 days to the seer in connection with the suicide of the victim's brother-in-law, Shyamprasad Shasthi. The seer was charged with abetment to suicide. Shastri committed suicide in Kedila in Puttur taluk on August 31, alleging threats to his life from the seer.
