Drunk driver kills three homeless people
Chennai: In a case of drunk driving, a car ran over three persons, including a pregnant woman while they were sleeping on a pavement on Taramani 100 feet road in the early hours of Monday. While three of them died on the spot, an 18-month-old toddler miraculously escaped unhurt in the accident.
Police have arrested three staff members of Babitha conveyance solutions, a transportation service company including assistant manager Sivakumar, 29 who was behind the wheels of the car. Sivakumar also moonlights as the driver of the cab and all the three were in an inebriated condition, police said.
While the deceased couple was identified as Arumugam (34) and Aishwarya (28), who was six months pregnant, the identity of another lady remains to be ascertained. The couple’s young son, Anbarasu was handed over to child line officials.
Around 1 am, Sivakumar (29) and two others Devendran (24) and Sasikumar (28) were returning from Velachery after having dinner when the incident happened. They are area supervisors in the transport firm and all three of them reside at Perungudi.
