'Past governments have not paid any attention to the scope of tourism here'

Ratnagiri: Describing the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to be corrupt, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the former has not only looted government exchequer in Maharashtra but also destroyed the dreams of two generations.

"NCP has robbed Maharashtra during its rule. They have not only looted the government exchequer but also destroyed the dreams of two generations," he said while addressing a rally in Ratnagiri.

Prime Minister Modi, who has campaigning aggressively for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the run up to the Maharashtra Assembly polls, further said that there is immense scope for development of ecotourism in Ratnagiri .

"There is no better place in Maharashtra for ecotourism than Rantnagiri. There is a lot of scope for the development of tourism here, but the past governments have not paid any attention to it," Prime Minister Modi said.

"There are so many forts in this region. If we develop the forts in Maharashtra as tourist attractions, lakhs of tourists will come to see them," he added.

Prime Minister Modi also reached out to the fishermen community in Maharashtra and emphasized on the use of science and technology for their benefits.

"The fishermen of this region work very hard. They spend days together in the sea looking for fish. We can help them by using science and technology. We can use satellites to inform the fishermen about the fish catchments in the sea," he said.
