TVS Motors chairman lauds PM Narendra Modi’s initiatives

49 panchayats (331 SST villages) and has even won the ‘Nirmal Gram Puraskar’ award

Chennai: Lauding the Prime Minister’s initiatives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Womens’ empowerment, Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company said that the vision was laudable and that this initiative was India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive.

“The Prime Minister has also been emphasizing on the urgent need for change in societal values with regard to women empowerment and protection,” he said.

Over the last 20 years, TVS Motor Company through their CSR arm, Srinivasan Services Trust (SST) has been focusing on hygiene, sanitation and women empowerment in over 2500 villages.

SST consciously works on reducing open defecation which helps improving the personal hygiene and sanitation of the villages. 49 panchayats (331 SST villages) and has even won the ‘Nirmal Gram Puraskar’ award.

“In keeping with the Prime Minister’s initiative of women empowerment, today 97,000 families in 2500 SST villages (in 6525 self-help groups) are earning Rs 400 crores per year. The role and status of women in the community in these villages has undergone a radical transformation.

The Prime Minister’s emphasis on Swachh Bharat and women empowerment drive strengthens our resolve to continue this mammoth task of nation building,” he said in a release.
