Bengaluru: Kapil Kumar, a commuter says, “Due to the bad condition of the roads and numerous potholes, now the BMTC buses and heavy vehicles have been diverted towards St John’s Road and Benson Town.
Now they cannot take the Bamboo Bazar road to Shivajinagar.” Voicing a similar opinion Krishna M says, “This is the shortest way to Shivajinagar or else we have to go through Cantonment area. The authorities should take up the matter seriously. How long can they give lame excuses for bad roads?”
Earlier the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had put the blame on the previous government for the pathetic state of roads in Bangalore city. Vijay Katti, a resident, wonders aloud, “How long will they play the blame game? If the previous government did not do it, it is now the responsibility of the present government to provide good roads to the citizens.”
Many two-wheelers have fallen into the potholes. Rajnesh, a shopkeeper says, “We have seen many people having a bad fall on this road. The situation becomes worse during rains. Considering the rains that we have been seeing, I will not be surprised if we see more accidents on this road. It is filled with huge potholes.”
Many citizens are irritated with the fact that newly-laid roads soon show wear and tear. Shailaija K, a BPO employee says, “It is time that BBMP provides some kind of checklist to verify the quality of the new roads like: information pertaining to the quality of roads, a drawing showing different components of the road and a brief introduction on different types of roads like gravel roads, tar roads.
This needs to be done so that citizens can question the authorities in case of shoddy work or create a forum where we can point out such issues.”
