Chandy, Sudheeran wash hands of Veekshanam Mani write-up
This is the second time in a month that Veekshanam has resorted to criticizing the KC
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress leadership has washed its hands of the controversial article in its party mouthpiece Veekshanam, against KC (M) chairman and Finance Minister K. M. Mani. While KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran told reporters in the capital that the article had come without the consent of the Congress leadership, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said in Kottayam that Mani was a senior leader of the UDF and the criticism was most unwarranted.
This is the second time in a month that Veekshanam has resorted to criticizing the KC (M) and its leader. Ever since there was speculation that Mani had held talks with the CPM leadership to defect to the LDF where was assured the CM’s post, Congress leaders at the top level as well as second rung leaders had been criticizing Mani on and off. The latest article had likened the KC (M) to a shy and reluctant girl in its golden jubilee year. The article alleged that if Mani left the UDF and joined the LDF, it would be the end of the party.
“Criticism against senior leaders should be avoided. I don’t agree with the article. Mani is a top leader of the front and it is not right to criticize him”, said Oommen Chandy. Minutes after Chandy said this, Sudheeran also rallied to the defence of Mani saying that the article had come without the consent of the party.
“Mani is the leader of the main coalition party in the front where his services have been exemplary. I have given strict instructions not to repeat these sort of incidents in future”, said Sudheeran.
Not to be cowed down by the drubbing at the hands of the Congress, Prathichaya, the weekly mouthpiece of KC (M) came out with the statement that none need teach politics to a seasoned politician like Mani. However a Congress leader said Veekshanam was likely to apologize to Mani in its Monday’s edition for hurting his sentiments and that of his party colleagues.
