Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to sanction a grant of Rs 2,000 crore as assistance for relief and rehabilitation work in the Hudhud-affected areas. Mr Naidu also asked the PM to declare Cyclone Hudhud as a national calamity. According to top sources, Mr Naidu sent the letter to Mr Modi on Sunday.
The CM, speaking to the media on Sunday, said it will take some time for the government to get property loss estimates. According to officials, many electric poles had collapsed in Visakhapatnam district. AP state government energy secretary Ajay Jain said 40,000 electric poles were ready to replace the damaged poles.
KCR offers to Help With Rescue and Relief in AP
The Telangana State government has offered help to neighbouring AP. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has instructed the chief secretary to get in touch with the AP government and extend all help. Chief secretary Rajiv Sharma spoke to his AP counterpart, I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, and conveyed the Telangana government’s willingness to help. “I have talked to AP’s CS, and we are rushing pre-stressed concrete electric poles, that are required there, for immediate restoration of power lines. They have also asked for some staff and officials for taking up rescue and relief works, to which we have agreed.”
