ISL: ATK vs MUM: Atletico de Kolkata overpower Mumbai City FC in opener

The hosts put up a solid show to beat Mumbai City FC 3-0

Kolkata: The opening match of the much-awaited Indian Super League (ISL) 2014 witnessed home team Atletico De Kolkata (ATK) overpowering heavyweights Mumbai City FC (MUM) 3-0 at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Sunday.

Here is how the opening match of ISL unfolded.

Starting XI:

Atletico De Kolkata: Subhashish Roy Chowdhury, Denzil, Josemi, Arnab Mondal, Saha, Borja, Nato, Jofre, Luis Garcia (captain), Fikru, Sahni

Mumbai City FC : Subrata Pal, Deepak Mandal, Pavel Cmovs, Manuel Friedrich, Raju, Letzelter, Jan Stohanzl, Tiago Ribeiro, Syed Rahim Nabi (captain), Diego Nadaya, Lalrindika Ralte.

2 - First booking of the as Mumbai City FC skipper Syed Rahim Nabi got a yellow for a rash challenge.

7 - So close yet so far. Baljit Singh hit a powerful ball but could not go past Subrata Pal’s wall-like defence.

9 - Pal is at again! Subrata Pal pulled off a stunner of save. Luis Garcia hit a blistering kick but there was Pal with one more brilliant save.

12: Free-kick for the home team: Letzelter brought down Sahni and referee awared a free-kick to Atletico de Kolkata. But no goal. Scoreline 0-0 still.

15: Mumbai City FC trying their best to retain the possession.

18: YELLOW CARD for Mumbai City FC’s Raju Gaikwad. The visiting team had a free-kick which Ralte delivered. Gaikwad was at the end of it but he handled the ball instead of using his feet to guide it.

24: Another yellow card, this time for Atletico de Kolkata’s Fikru.

28: GOAL! First goal of ISL, first of the match and first one for the hosts Atletico de Kolkata. The Ethiopian striker Fikru Lemissa chipped one after Luis Garcia's pass. Fikru cashed in well on Mumbai City FC’s defence which was left open. Even Subrata Pal could not save this one.

32: It is raining yellow cards in Kolkata! After Mumbai City FC’s Jan Stohanzl yellow in the 30th minute, hosts’ Ofentse Nato got yellow.

39: Injury and substitution! Nadong Bhutia replaced Mumbai City FC skipper Syed Nabi who twisted his ankle. Big blow for the visitors.

HALF-TIME: Atletico de Kolkata (ATK)1-0 Mumbai City FC (MUM)

50: Diego Nadaya’s try to level the scores after winning a free-kick was off the mark this time tries an audacious effort from 30 yards away after receiving the ball from Moritz. He could not generate power and chance went begging.

52: Mumbai City FC wasted another goal-scoring opportunity as Diego Nadaya’s attempt to net an equaliser went wide.

69: GOAL! Absolute stunner! Borja Fernandez take a bow. Atletico de Kolkata strengthened their lead to 2-0 after Fernandez scored a peach of a goal.

79: Andre Moritz wasted a chance and Mumbai City FC still trailing by 2 goals. He was in charge of a free-kick but could not score.

81: Nadong Bhutia put in a solid effort but could not register a goal for the visitors.

90+2: Goal number three for the hosts Atletico de Kolkata as they piled on to Mumbai City FC's misery. This time it was Spain's Arnal Llibert who netted one for ATK. End of the match.
