Probe into Assisted Reproductive Technology clinics sought

The petitioner told the court that the activities of these clinics are daring

Hyderabad: A human rights activist from the city, Mr T. Dhangopal Rao, has moved a PIL before the Hyderabad High Court seeking probe into the activities of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) clinics in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The petitioner told the court that the activities of these clinics are “daring, crude and criminal”. ART is the method used to achieve pregnancy by artificial means. It is the reproductive technology used primarily for infertility treatments.

He submitted that the ART clinics are not accredited by the National Registry of Assisted Reproductive Technology, but are acting against the guidelines issued by the latter. As per the guidelines if anyone making a statement contrary to the guidelines in its publicity material or any other form will be liable for prosecution, he added.

Citing that that the ART (Regulation) Bill - 2010 which is pending enactment before the Parliament is crucial, the petitioner said if the rights of couples seeking infertility treatment and other stakeholders involved must be safeguarded, to curb malpractices and exploitation of commercial surrogacy.

PIL to restrain paying compensation to land encroachers

A PIL has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court seeking to direct the AP Government to restrain it from paying compensation to encroachers of land that was recently proposed to be allotted to Hero Moto Corp Ltd, in Satyavedu Special Economic Zone, in Chittoor district.

K Chandramohan, a resident of the district, said the local politicians are trying to swallow the money in the name of encroachers. He said that the Government has allotted 650 acres to the company and it was subject matter of a pending litigation, and now the local politicians are trying to create more third party interests on the land.
