Pending civic works ignored
As many as 380 important files have been pending since September
Hyderabad: As many as 380 important files of town planning, health and sanitation and engineering departments, which need immediate clearance from the GHMC commissioner at head officer’s level, have been pending since September as the entire municipal team was busy with Bathukamma, Dasara and Bakrid works as well as the Metropolis Congress week arrangements.
The same was the case during GHMC’s annual tax collection, 2014 elections and the Intensive Household Survey in August. For every job assigned to the GHMC, the commissioner is said to involve all departmental heads and their co-ordinates, thus paralysing the civic body’s functioning.
Tenders have not been called for almost 75 per cent of the Corporators’ budget works, with December 2 being the last day of term (once the term expires special commissioner will be assigned to carry out work at the ward level).
In July, the GHMC standing committee had approved purchase of extra 25 rickshaws for various wards, following the litter-free zones initiative. However, till date, there have been no purchases, affecting primary garbage lifting.
Certain wards like Safilguda, Tarnaka and in Uppal area have not been given rickshaws for the last 15 months. The file regarding purchase of new vehicles was sent to the GHMC chief twice, but it was returned stating “needs discussion.”
Projects like remodelling of storm water drains, construction of slaughter houses, comprehensive road development plan, litter free zones and road widening have been pending for months together.
Sources in the GHMC have confirmed that the commissioner has been postponing clearance of files starting from Bonalu then Ramzan, Household Survey, data entry, Bathukamma, Dasara, Bakrid and the XI Metropolis Congress meet that ended on October 9. Nearly 380 files pertaining to civic works for tax payers need immediate clearance.
