Man hacked to death near police station
The deceased had some family problems
Coimbatore: A building contractor was hacked to death barely 400 metres from the Singanallur police station in broad daylight by an unidentified duo who escaped on their motorcycle after the murder.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Raja Rammohan, had served a jail term in a criminal case and was also going through some family disputes. “We have definite clues and are confident of nabbing the killers very soon,” said city police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan.
He told DC that the deceased had some family problems, including a dispute over the custody of his child. It was suspected that his brother-in-law had hired the killers to eliminate Rammohan, the commissioner said. He said the brother-in-law is on the run “but we will get him soon”.
Eyewitnesses said Rammohan was proceeding on his motorcycle from Kakkan street to Trichy road when two men on a bike signalled him to stop. The pillion rider got off that vehicle and approached Rammohan, seeking directions to some place scribbled on a piece of paper.
Even as the contractor was giving directions, the stranger took out a sickle hidden under his shirt and hacked him brutally. The first blow fell on the neck, the police said. They said before the public could react, the killer and his accomplice on the bike fled.
A police team led by deputy commissioner (crime) Ramya Bharati rushed to the spot and removed Rammohan’s body, lying in a pool of blood, and sent it for post-mortem. His driving licence revealed the man’s identity, they said.
