Shashi Tharoor poll case trial in November

Tharoor in his nomination papers suppressed the information regarding the wealth
Kochi: The trial in the petition challenging the election of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat will begin in the first week of November. Justice P. Bhavadasan posted the case for pre-trial hearing on October 27. The High Court was considering a petition filed by S.Suresh, Thiruvananthapuram district president of the BJP, seeking a directive to the Election Commission to declare BJP candidate O.Rajagopal as the winner from the constituency.
According to the petitioner, Tharoor in his nomination papers suppressed the information regarding the wealth devolved on him following the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
The court will be considering four main issues in the case.
They are whether the nomination filed by Tharoor was valid, whether the affidavit filed by Tharoor along with the nomination was defective and was he guilty of suppressing the details regarding the assets he possessed at the relevant time, could the election be set aside if the nomination filed by Tharoor was defective and finally, whether the court could declare BJP candidate O.Rajagopal as Thiruvananthapuram MP.
