They are unhappy against negative attitude shown by the state government
Kochi: The Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided not to cooperate with the forthcoming Grand Kerala Shopping Festival in protest against the negative attitude shown by the state government towards trade and business in the state. The director board of the chamber took the decision after discussions with 18 organisations affiliated with the chamber, Mr Mathew Kuruvithadam, chairman of the chamber, said on Friday.
“When the government is facing a severe financial crunch, this kind of expenditure can only be termed as an extravaganza,” he said. “This is totally unnecessary,” he added. The business sector in the state was facing severe problems due to unscientific tax proposals of the government. The government’s decision to impose two per cent sales tax in addition to VAT for textiles had put the sector in a crisis, he said.
The forthcoming edition of GKSF, an event organised by the state government with cooperation from traders, is scheduled to begin in December and end in January.
