Mahendra Singh Dhoni ‘happy’ with bowlers
Indian skipper has hinted at no changes in the playing XI for the second ODI
Kochi: Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has hinted at no changes in the playing XI for the second ODI against the West Indies, despite his side despite misfiring in all departments in Wednesday’s series opener in Kochi.
Before the match there were concerns over the inconsistent form of the top order and a bowling unit that was repeatedly falling flat in death overs. After leaking 321 runs and then losing by a humiliating 124 runs, Dhoni is determined to play on with the same bunch on October 11 as he said India “played with the best team” at their disposal.
“I am happy with the bowling. We bowled well in the death overs and realised they won’t get anything in excess of 320-340 which I felt was par on this wicket,” said Dhoni.
“It was very hot and the fast bowlers got tired. I would’ve loved to bowl them a few more overs as we tried to delay the entry of spinners but it was not possible to rotate and keep them fresh.”
The captain admitted the dip in form of star batsman Virat Kohli is a major issue but wants to be patient with his heir apparent, who has contributed just 61 runs in the last six innings since March.
