Tamilians in Karnataka will be protected: Siddaramaiah
Belgaum: Declaring that the government was committed to protecting the people of Tamil Nadu living in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said there was no question of shifting AIADMK supremo, J Jayalalithaa from Bengaluru to a prison in Tamil Nadu as of now.
“When an appeal is pending in the courts as in the Jayalalithaa case, it is not possible for the state government to act in the matter. We can only go by the court's orders. The case has been shifted to Bengaluru on the Supreme Court's orders and we can’t intervene,” he told reporters on arrival at Belgaum airport to receive AICC president, Sonia Gandhi.
“It is the duty of every state to give protection to people of other states living in it. We are committed to protecting people of Tamil Nadu living in Karnataka just as that state is committed to protecting Kannadigas living there,” he added.
Referring to the drowning of a child in a storm water drain in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister blamed the old drainage system of the city and the heavy rain for the mishap.
