Transformers are burnt due to the power transmission lapses
Khammam: The farmers of Khammam district, which is facing dry spell conditions, are now encountering another problem of burning of transformers due to the power transmission lapses. Transco officials are unable to attend to the more than 15 complaints in a day. N. Nageswara Rao, a farmer from Tallada, said that the transformer in their area was burnt two days back but no official attended to the problem.
“The crops would become dry if water is not extended to them,” he said.There are 18,000 transformers in rural areas meant for supplying power to the agriculture. P. Sundar Rao, an official in Transco, said that the transformers were burnt due to overloading on the devices.
“The farmers used to start their motors once the power supply was on. With this, the transformers are unable to meet the capacity and facing problems,” he said.The state has been reeling under severe power crisis since division from residuary Andhra Pradesh.
