Printable pictures available on the net, the takers for paintings have reduced
Coimbatore: "Nature and Life are my abiding gurus" says self-styled artist V.Sivakumar.His 43 paintings capturing varied colours, moods and texture of Nature are up for sale at the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery. He has recreated frames from movies and documentaries into canvas. Conservation of Nature and its wildlife forms the core theme of his paintings.
Now with printable pictures available on the net, the takers for paintings of artists have reduced drastically, rues Sivakumar. But printed art cannot replace paintings, he asserts.
"People wanting to adorn their homes with paintings of artists have gone down as there are cheaper alternatives that can be printed from the net. People should continue to provide patronage to the paintings of artists for its genuineness.
The artist who started painting from a tender age of nine without any formal training has been into painting since the last three decades. "It is important to conserve the depleting flora and fauna and I ensure that my paintings are focused around the cause."
The paintings that are on display at the gallery till October 12 range from Rs500 to Rs25,000. While several paintings were born out of his imagination, paintings on wildlife conservation have been picked up from movies and the National Geographic channel. He recreates the snaps taken from movies into the canvas. This is his second expo in the city. He has held exhibitions at Ernakulum and Kochi in Kerala. "I expect better crowds in the weekend," Sivakumar adds.
