50000 unmonitored autos operating in Cyberabad

Around 40,000 citizens in both Hyderabad and Cyberabad use autorickshaws and cabs

Hyderabad: Around 50,000 unmonitored autorickshaws are operating in Cyberabad police jurisdiction. Of the 11,800 cabs only 6,500 are being tracked by the police through registration.

Though a notification was issued to make registration of 'My vehicle is Safe' compulsory, the cops are clueless about who owns and operates these vehicles moving around in Cyberabad.

Around 40,000 citizens in both Hyderabad and Cyberabad use autorickshaws and cabs. At present around 10,000 cabs and 50,000 autorickshaws are functional. It is mandatory for all cabs to have QR coded stickers.

Of the 11,800 cans around 6,500 have complied with this requirement and 1,000 is under process. The law and order officials allotted to Cyberabad number just 5,000 and the police public ratio is 1:833.

Kukatpally is considered to be an anti-pedestrian zone with very bad traffic management. Out of the 1,000 main junctions in Cyberabad only 212 have traffic signals. Above all in an area of 3,500 sq.km only 1,000 traffic policemen have been deployed. Many major junctions like Tipukhan bridge have no signals or traffic policemen.

Cyberabad police commissioner C.V Anand explained, "The main challenge in a developing city is how to create infrastructure and robust systems. For this we need a legal framework and resources. Cyberabad has around 1,000 junctions. However, only 221 are under traffic management. We also need 100 more bus trips (at presently 40 RTC buses with 325 trips cover the cyberabad area).

Cyberabad needs more law and order and traffic cops to match the rapid growth in population." Recently five new IT corridor patrols have been introduced and each is managed by four cops. The department has allotted 80 police personnel for this.

The Telangana state government has sanctioned Rs 300 crore for security and 1,500 four wheelers and 2,000 two wheelers were purchased. 3,500 drivers will be recruited. The police will set up a new police station at Gachibowli and nine new police check posts.
