Now, Nehru’s BJP’s ‘hero’

Modi govt to launch new scheme on first PM’s birth anniversary

Bengaluru: Come November 14, and the Narendra Modi-led NDA government could launch a unique scheme to mark the birth anniversary of the country’s first Prime Minister, and perhaps prove to its critics that ‘Swachh Bharat’ was not a one-off effort at glorifying political legends.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, BJP vice president B. S. Yeddyurappa said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already stated that the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru (Children’s day) would be observed in a different manner. Irrespective of their political affiliation, the Union government has decided to pay a tribute to renowned politicians by celebrating their birth anniversary in a unique way. Therefore, the government would launch a unique programme to mark the birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister. “The Prime Minister has decided to set up a separate committee to launch a social programme on that day. We hope that politicians from Karnataka will be included in that committee”, Mr. Yeddyurappa added.

The former Chief Minister requested both Tamil and Kannada speaking people to maintain peace and harmony following denial of bail to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa by the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday.

Everyone should respect the court’s verdict, he added.
