Kerala Cops help sought for work on M G Road

The Metro agency has already prepared a detailed plan regarding traffic diversion and utility line shifting

KOCHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has sent a letter to the city police authorities seeking regulation of traffic at MG Road. The Metro agency has requested that the road be made one-way at least for a week to facilitate shifting of the newly found pipelines near the Maharaja’s College ground.

If the pipeline shifting was not completed soon, Metro Rail works would come to a complete standstill in the stretch, according to DMRC. Since the sewage pipeline is passing through the centre of the road, vehicular movement has to be restricted along one side of the road.

DMRC sources said that police officials had agreed to take a decision on the proposal after the India – West Indies cricket match on Wednesday. Once, the pipeline shifting works start, the area will be barricaded and big vehicles including service buses have to be diverted through alternative routes like Chittoor Road.

The Metro agency has already prepared a detailed plan regarding traffic diversion and utility line shifting and the works will start once the proposal is approved by police authorities.

As the agencies concerned have no proper sketches of the location of utility lines, unidentified cables including Kerala Water Authority pipelines and sewage lines have been causing delays to Metro construction works, especially along the busy MG Road.
