Chennai: After a lull due to political turmoil and festive holidays, Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam set the official machinery rolling by reviewing the feud between TN and Sri Lanka over fishing rights in the Palk Bay and Katchatheevu.
“It is learnt that the CM had passed oral instructions to the top brass to speed up the mechanism of government. On Tuesday, he made it clear to the party workers to refrain from activities that would bring remarks for the party and now the government is back in business,” said a highly placed official.
By evening, press releases and invitations to media houses to cover government events started pouring in. The commercial taxes department, in a media statement, warned that recent investigations undertaken by the department had shown that certain dealers, involved in online trading, had indulged in tax evasion by not declaring the turnover through online sales. Such dealers have not paid the value added tax (VAT) due to the government.
There has been a case where a dealer has made online sales for several crores of rupees and legal action is being pursued to collect tax due, including interest and penalty, the release said. Also there was a schedule released by the civil supplies on grievance redressal camps for public. The Changes in family cards, deficiencies at fair price shops or unfair trade practices or deficiencies in goods will be dealt with at redressal camps.
