Garbage heaps on streets cleared

Coimbatore: The corporation staff swung into action to clearing the stinking garbage heaps and the overflowing bins in Coimbatore on Wednesday.
In an instant response to DC's article on garbage piling up on city streets, Mayor P.Rajkumar and corporation commissioner S. Ganesh set out for an inspection at 5 in the morning.
They visited areas where garbage remained uncleared and instructed the corporation staff to take swift action to address the grievances of city residents. Following the fiat by the mayor and the commissioner, the garbage that had not been cleared in several areas were quickly disposed of.
The sand accumulated along the road median which was posing a lot of inconvenience to two-wheelers on the road were also cleared.
The mayor initiated a drive to clean up the sand on Sathyamangalam road, Mettupalayam road flyover, medians on Tiruchy road, Avinashi road flyover, and Palakkad road. The drive will continue for the next two days.
The mayor also inspected Nanjundapuram bridge and instructed that the huge pit that was posing danger to road users be closed as part of monsoon preparedness, Rajkumar also inspected the pump room to make sure that the pumps that drain water under the flyovers were working.
