'Osama bin Laden' arrested in Brazil
Rio de Janeiro: A man named ‘Osama bin Laden’ was arrested in Brazil for committing electoral fraud.
Manoel Nunes de Assis, who used the Bin Laden moniker, was wearing a tunic similar to the one that former al-Qaeda chief was often seen in.
Nunes de Assis, who was running for the marginal National Labor Party (PTN), was arrested after being seen urging voters to choose him while handing out bottles of water, the express.co.uk reported.
The election in the Brazilian city allows candidates to run under whatever name they want.
The report said that others opted for comic book superhero Wonder Woman, 80s action movie hero Rambo and a number of people ran under the name Barack Obama.
"He stood in the doorway on the pretext of selling water while approaching people and asking for votes," the Express quoted electoral magistrate Henrique Veiga as saying.
Two other people were also campaigning under bin Laden's name.
If found guilty of violating rules, Nunes de Assis may be removed from the electoral race.
