Stir on missing names
Representatives have to face embarassing moments
Anantapur: The political representatives had to face embarrassing moments in all parts of the district after the beneficiaries, whose names were missing from the lists, stage protests at the Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru programmes. As part of weeding out ineligible persons from the lists, the officials reportedly missed even eligible old aged people from the lists.
In Anantapur Municipal Corporation, the beneficiaries staged a protest during the Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru programmes at 8,9 and 10th divisions on Tuesday. The representatives, instead of attracting people over hike in the pension, have to convince the missing genuine beneficiaries. CPI leader Katamaiah lamented that at least 250 beneficiaries names were removed from the list in the 8th division of Anantapur Municipal Corporation alone.
“All the genuine beneficiaries' names have been weeded out from the list from 8th division where most of the people were living bel-ow poverty line,” the CPI leader said. The beneficiaries stal-led the Janmabhoomi programme at all the three divisions demanding to include their names in the list to get old age pension.
Anantapur MLA V. Prabhakar Chowdary, Mayor M. Swaroopa and commissioner Sre-enivasulu had to convince the people to recheck the lists. They assured to include the names of all genuine beneficiaries to get pensions. Speaking on the occasion, Urban MLA Prabhakar Chowdary said that the government had hiked pensions as part of welfare of elderly people.
