Power crisis: Second power holiday for Telangana industry

Power deficit has gone up from 800 mw three days ago to 1,000 mw

Hyderabad: The power holiday for the industrial sector will be increased from to two days a week due to the rising energy deficit. Moreover, night-time cuts in the rest of the state are likely to increase as well to offset part of the deficit, which has gone up from 800 mw three days ago to 1,000 mw.

Commercial establishments including malls, theatres and smaller businesses are already suffering four hours of daily scheduled cuts as they are supplied power from domestic feeders. The industries earlier coordinated their weekly closures with the one-day power holiday. The second day of power holiday could affect them.

The second day of power holiday, which will be imposed from Wednesday, will offset around 150 mw power deficit.

The current power demand of 6,200 mw in Telangana has been constant but the agricultural demand has picked up substantially due to the Kharif season. The two-day holiday will weigh heavily on HT industries, especially the power intensive steel, aluminum, ferro alloys and flour mills.
