Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao hits out at Telugu Desam, Congress
Harish Rao questioned TD’s decision to undertake a bus yatra in Telangana
Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Telugu Desam for planning to undertake yatras in Telangana against the TRS government.
Accusing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu of trying in vain to stall formation of Telangana state and subsequently creating hurdles at every step, including depriving the state of its share of electricity from Sileru, Krishnapatnam and cancelling PPAs, Mr Harish Rao questioned TD’s decision to undertake a bus yatra in Telangana.
“What will he tell people during the bus yatra? Will he say he tried to stall Telangana? Deprived Telangana of power? Naidu is jealous of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s popularity.
He is unable to digest formation of Telangana state even today. He was in power for nine years but failed to establish power units in Telangana. Though Telangana has huge stocks of coal, power plants were established in Andhra region twice their capacity,” he said.
Mr Harish Rao said that against the demand of 6,200 MW of power in Telangana, the state now has 4,417 MW, a shortfall of 1,783 MW. “If the Telugu Desam and Congress governments had taken steps earlier, Telangana would not have faced power shortage.
Are they not responsible for the present power crisis?” he asked. Former Chief Ministers Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, K. Rosaiah and N. Kiran Kumar Reddy laid foundation stones for power projects like Shankerpally and others, but did not take steps to complete them.
