Disproportionate assets case: Confusion over false news on Jayalalithaa's bail
DIG Prisons was informed that the news was false and that the HC rejected her bail
BENGALURU: The Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Jayasimha was reportedly halfway to VIP cell number 23 in the women’s prison in the Central Prison at Parapanna Agrahara to break the highly televised news on the regional and national channels that the former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK supreme J. Jayalalithaa was reportedly granted bail by the Karnataka High Court, when some jail officials ran after him and stopped him on his tracks.
The DIG Prisons was informed that the news was false and that the High Court had rejected her bail application. He returned to his office and waited for further communication from his senior officers. According to sources, Ms Jayalalithaa was reportedly hopeful of getting bail and since Monday she was looking cheerful though she continued to refuse interview to her visitors in the prison.
According to an unconfirmed report a private chartered jet was parked at the HAL airport in the city since morning to take her back.
Confusion regarding the Court verdict reportedly erupted after the Special Public Prosecutor submitted before the Court that he had no objection to her bail.
“The moment this news was flashed it was wrongly interpreted and reported as the Court granting her bail. The prison chief ADGP and IG Prisons, K.V. Gagandeep, was about to get into his car to head to the Central Prison, when he was informed that the news was wrong. The Commissioner of Police, M.N. Reddi, reportedly informed the DG&IGP, Lalrokhuma Pachuau, about the bail, then he called his boss the next moment and said it was false,” said an official source.
