Dhyan Chand film was Shah Rukh Khan’s idea

Karan Johar will also soon announce the director of the film

Mumbai: Dharma Productions will soon begin work on its first sports film, a biopic of the legendary hockey player, Dhyan Chand. Aarti Shetty and Pooja Shetty have collaborated with Karan Johar and the team is working towards a bound script (penned by Ila Bedi Dutta) and other logistical details. However, a little birdie tells us that it was Shah Rukh Khan who had first suggested the idea for such a biopic, while at a dinner with Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar.

“Shah Rukh, from his school days, was a hockey player. During a chat with Adi and Karan a few years ago, Shah Rukh’s idea was to raise awareness about Dhyan Chand and highlight his achievements. He also wanted to focus on the current scenario in the sport, and how young players today view the legendary sportsman,” our source said.

At that time, Shah Rukh was very kicked about this idea especially since Chak De! India seemed to have touched so many viewers with its inspiring story.

“Right now, no one has been cast,” our source said. “But yes, Shah Rukh and Karan have spoken about this project, casually. Dharma too will spend some time on research and have a bound script in place before they start approaching actors.”

Karan will also soon announce the director of the film, who will mostly be a Dharma protégé.
