Congress moves Election Commission against PM Narendra Modi

The Congress held that the PM's speech on AIR was a violation of Model Code of Conduct

NEW DELHI: Congress on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of violating the model code of conduct by addressing people on All India Radio ahead of the Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana, saying his act was a classic case of “misusing state machinery” and “abusing authority”.

Three days after Mr Modi spoke on AIR, the Congress approached the Election Commission demanding that the Prime Minister be issued a notice for the alleged violation and be given a warning.

AICC legal department secretary K.C. Mittal said the programme was broadcast in contravention of the instructions issued by the Election Commission.
