Hyderabad: Nearly 108 ambulances in Telangana state that remained off the roads due to lack of maintenance funds, have been restored on Monday, thanks to the intervention of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Following reports of a halt to 108 ambulance services by GVK Group in some districts due to delay in release of funds by the government, Mr Rao convened a meeting with minister and officials of the health department and GVK Group.
Mr Rao, who took a serious view of the issue, directed officials to ensure that all the 316 ambulances offer services to the needy with immediate effect. He asked them not to stop 108 services for petty reasons.
Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah, who also holds the portfolio of medical and health, said the TS government has been releasing its share of funds to GVK on time since the formation of state on June 2 and the existing arrears pertain to the undivided state, when the then government delayed payment.
He said the then AP government failed to release funds to GVK for April and May this year. Mr Rajaiah added that both the governments have to sit together to finalise their share with regard to payment of arrears for April and May.
He asked the GVK group to bring to the notice of the TS government in case of any pr-oblems in operating 108 services but it should not trouble the people under this pretext.
