Son goes against her wish: Woman shoots self
Bengaluru: Upset over her son marrying against her wish, a 51-year-old housewife shot herself to death with her husband's licensed revolver in Murugeshpalya near HAL in Old Airport police station limits on Sunday evening. The victim, Prabha, died in a hospital early on Monday morning. She was married to Venkatesh, a businessman and a landlord. The couple has two sons, Kiran, a doctor, and Gautham, a civil engineer.
Gautham was in love with a girl and had married her recently against his mother's wish. The police said that she also constantly complained that her husband and sons did not pay heed to her. Prabha, who was feeling neglected, was depressed. On Sunday afternoon, she quarrelled with her family members.
In the evening, she shot herself in the abdomen. Her family members, who heard the gun shot, rushed her to a hospital, where she died around 1 am on Monday.
“Prabha was suffering for over two years since her husband met with an accident and was bed-ridden. On top of it, she was also not treated well by her family members. Gautham's marriage had pushed her further into depression and she was upset as her husband and elder son, who supported Gautham," the police said.
In her suicide note, Prabha has mentioned that she was shooting herself as her son married against her wish. The police will send the note to handwriting experts to know whether it was written by her. The Old Airport police have taken up a case of suspicious death.
