Vishnu went missing on Friday immediately after valiantly saving the life of a woman
Kochi: The Southern Naval Command has expanded its search operations to a wider area of the water body spanning from Aroor to Vypeen for Navy sailor Vishnu Unni, 24, who remained missing on Monday too.
Vishnu went missing on Friday immediately after valiantly saving the life of a woman who had jumped into the backwaters along with her six month old child off the Venduruthy bridge. Two helicopters and several boats, including inflatable rafters, had been pressed into service for the search.
According to a Navy spokesman, the search now was participated by all the Navy officers and sailors at the Naval Base. “It’s a 24X7 operation now, but we are yet to hear anything about Vishnu,” he said. Many agencies such as marine police, CSL, Fisheries etc were also assisting the Navy in the search process.
Vishnu, a sailor with Sea 1 of INS Sharda and a native of Palakkad on Friday saved the life of a 35-year-old woman who jumped into the backwaters from Venduruthy Bridge with her seven-month-old child. The child was later declared dead but the woman was rescued. The woman Sangeetha is still in the intensive care unit of the General Hospital.
Vishnu successfully took the woman and the child to a boat of the Cochin Shipyard limited (CSL), but disappeared in the waters immediately after that. His immediate family members are also camping in the city with the hope of hearing about his rescue.
