Kerala Alcohol Ban: NGO finds KSBC’s fresh affidavit also wrong

Revised affidavit on sales of IMFL and beer inconsistent with figures in KSBC website
KOCHI: Close on the heels of Kerala State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) submitting a revised affidavit in the Kerala High Court on the liquor and beer sales contradicting its earlier statement, an NGO has found the second claim wrong as well.
The Alcohol & Drug Information Centre (ADIC)-India has found that the revised affidavit comparing sales of IMFL and Beer during five months of 2014 (April – August) with the corresponding period in 2013 is inconsistent with the sales figures in the consumption statement of the KSBC website.
As per the affidavit, the IMFL sales during the first 5 months from April to August has dropped by 1.12 lakh cases (1%) from 99.55 lakh cases in 2013 to 98.43 lakh cases in 2014, while the beer sales has dropped by 2.42 lakh cases (6%) from 42.47 lakh cases to 40.05 lakh cases during the same period.
Quoting the consolidated sales figures of IMFL and beer for the same period based from the KSBC website, ADIC-India said that the IMFL sales has actually dropped by 1.61 lakh cases (1.62 %) from 99.56 lakh cases in 2013 to 97.95 lakh cases in 2014, whereas the beer sales has dropped by 2.17 lakh cases (5.14 %) from 42.22 Lakh cases to 40.05 lakh cases.
ADIC also pointed to serious errors on KSBC website with regard to sales of beer in cases and litres. “The drop of 2,16,862 beer sales in cases is being shown as 12,98,765 litres whereas the corresponding figures in litres has to be around 19,51,000 as one case of beer is approximately 9 litres. This clearly reveals that something is seriously wrong with KSBC”, Johnson said.
