Kerala Alcohol Ban: Bar verdict to be delayed further

New Abkari Policy will not come up for hearing on Tuesday
Kochi: The much-awaited verdict in the bar case will be delayed further as the petitions filed by bar owners challenging state government's new abkari policy will not come up for hearing on Tuesday.
The case was not listed in the cause list updated by the court on Monday evening. Justice K. Surendra Mohan had reserved his order before closing the court for Puja holidays. The Supreme Court had permitted the bar owners to function till the High Court pronounces the judgment. The apex court had also asked the state to maintain status quo on the state's decision to close down the bar hotels. The initial apex court order was to maintain status quo till September 30.
The single bench concluded the arguments in the case on September 25 and reserved the case for orders. Several high-profile advocates, including Kapil Sibal and Aryama Sundaram, had appeared before the court and argued the case.
Even though the matter is not listed for hearing on Tuesday, the High Court Registry can list the case in the afternoon session. The beverages corporation submitted that after the closure of 418 bar hotels, the liquor consumption had come down.
The government recently had announced its new liquor policy which aimed at total liquor prohibition in the coming years.
