Mysterious case of headless torso in Kalasipalya solved

Police picked up Reshma & her husband for questioning & they confessed to the crime

Bengaluru: The Kalasipalya police have arrested a couple in connection with the murder of a man, whose body without the limbs was found on Kalasipalya Main Road on October 3 night. An illicit relationship and financial dispute is said to be the reason behind the murder.

The arrested are identified as Reshma (30) and her husband Mukthiyar (45), residents of Mangammanapalya near Madiwala. Reshma was working in a garment factory, while her husband is an electrician. The victim has been identified as Samiulla alias Chaanu (35), a resident of Denkanikottai in Tamil Nadu. He was a lorry driver and timber merchant.

Samiulla’s torso packed in a plastic bag was found near R.K. Lodge on Kalasipalya Main Road, while his legs were found on ‘B’ Street near Kalasipalya bus stop on October 3 night. The body was not identified and the police had published information about his body marks in Urdu newspapers, seeking information on the deceased.

“Seeing the newspaper, Samiulla’s wife Tasina and younger brother Sadiq approached the police. They were taken to the mortuary where they identified the body. They told the police that Samiulla had an illicit affair with Reshma, who is also from Denkanikottai and was his relative. When we checked Samiulla’s call details, we found that he was in constant touch with Reshma,” the police said.

The police picked up Reshma and her husband for questioning and they confessed to the crime. “Investigations revealed that Samiulla regularly gave money to Reshma. But when he stopped, Reshma refused to have a physical relationship with him. Investigations revealed that Samiulla allegedly visited her and forced her to have sex with him. He had also allegedly started pestering her to return the money. Reshma told her husband about it and they hatched the murder plot,” the police said.

“Reshma called Samiulla and asked him to come to her house and collect Rs 1 lakh on October 2. He went there around 9.45 pm and the duo had sex after which Samiulla slept. Meanwhile, Reshma called her husband, who was waiting outside. The duo strangled Samiulla for about 30 minutes with a veil. After confirming he was dead, they cut off his head, hands and legs using a machete and a hacksaw blade in the bathroom,” the police said.

“They packed the hands and head in one plastic bag, and torso and legs in two other bags. Their rented house is on the third floor. They dragged the body parts down, hailed an autorickshaw to Goripalya and threw the bag containing head and hands into a storm water drain. They returned home in another auto and took the other two bags. In another autorickshaw, they reached Kalasipalya early on October 3 morning and disposed of the bags before returning home,” the police said.

The accused couple has three children. Investigation also revealed that the children were sleeping in the house when the cold murder took place. “It is also revealed that Reshma had affairs with a few other men, however Samiulla did not object to that,” the police said. The police are trying to trace the head and the hands thrown into the drain, but suspect that it could have been washed away because of heavy rains over the last one week.
