Guwahati: Meghalaya police on Monday arrested the father of the girl who was beheaded and thrown into the forest area of Williamnagar in East Garo hills.
Police on Sunday recovered the body of a 15-year-old Richina N. Sangma from forest area of East Garo Hills. The girl was reported missing since September 28.
The East Garo Hills SP Davis N.R. Marak however said that police has not yet been able to identify the accused and father of the girl was arrested following an FIR by his wife.
Informing that body of the girl was found charred and beheaded, police said that the girl might have been raped as her body was recovered without any clothes.
Pointing out that her mother accused her husband for sexually assaulting her daughter in the FIR against him, police said that the post-mortem was done on the spot since the body was in a highly decomposed state.
“We have arrested the father but we have no evidence as yet to prove his involvement in the crime,” said the police clarifying that man had also filed an FIR.
