Hrithik is finally back with a bang!

The actor tells us why success is sweet, and why he took on a larger-than-life role

Mumbai: Hrithik Roshan is basking in the accolades that have come his way for Bang Bang, although, as he confesses, it all still seems a little too “incredible” to take in.

“I’m so full of gratitude. The numbers show that we have succeeded. Siddharth (Anand, the director) is so happy that we broke the record set by Krrish 3 on the opening day. My father was very happy too, and I’m glad because it shows that I’ve done better than in my last film. But we’ve all also reminded ourselves that our victory is in the journey,” said Hrithik on Monday.

Hrithik said a big reason why he took up Bang Bang was because fans wanted to see him in a larger-than-life role. He also said that his choice of role was a continuation of the exploration of his craft: “Cinema and creativity are about exploring more, even if it doesn’t please a section of the audience. However, we all need acknowledgement and do work towards that.”

Fans also seem to have loved the Michael Jackson tribute dance that Hrithik performed. “I performed all the dance numbers with earplugs on because I couldn’t be exposed to loud sounds after undergoing brain surgery,” Hrithik said. “Yes, I had a hole in my brain when I started working on Bang Bang, but I decided to fight like a soldier.”

Hrithik showered praise on co-star Katrina Kaif, saying, “She works so hard. I love her spirit.” His peers in B-town, too, came in for their fair share of praise, especially for the sporting way in which they took up all the challenges Hrithik dared them to over social media. “I’m glad everyone did the Bang Bang dare. It’s beyond competition, we are bigger human beings,” he said.

As for what comes next, Hrithik said he wants to “perfect the art of doing nothing” for the next few weeks. After that, he said, “We’ll start MohenjoDaro whenever Ashutosh Gowariker is ready.”
