An urban affair opens
Hyderabad: Hyderabad will witness a congregation of experts and administrators in the field of urban planning from Monday on as the 11th Metropolis World Congress kicks off. Telangana government is already considering the five day mega event as a very prestigious event for the state. About 400 foreign delegates from nearly 50 countries are expected to participate in the World Congress.
In addition to delegates and experts in various aspects of urban planning, mayors of cities like Barcelona, Johanne-sburg, Tehran, Berlin and others will also participate in the conference. The theme of the Congress is ‘Cities for All’ with four other sub- themes namely Urban Equity, Governance, Finance and Urban India. Nobel Prize winner and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Chairman Dr Rajendra Pachauri will speak on the implications of climate change on cities and the measures required to mitigate these inflicted damages. Discussions will also be held on the subject of smart cities. The Union Budget included provisions for developing about 100 smart cities in the country.
Experts on urban development and e-governance will deliberate on the different models of a smart city. Other key sessions include Sustainable Housing policies, City Management series, Circles of Sustainability, Urban Poor, Healthy People Healthy Cities and so forth.
The five- day conference will have more than 30 discussion sessions on various subjects related to urban planning and policy making. Besides, technical visits to a variety of projects in the city like the Metro Rail, Outer Ring Road and the Rs 5 meal scheme initiated by the GHMC will also be organised.
Meanwhile Cops issue prohibitory orders for meet
The Cyberabad police issued prohibitory orders under Madhapur police station limits for five days for the 11th Metropolis World Congress at HICC.
Under Section 144 CrPC, the assembly of more than five persons has been prohibited from Monday 6 pm till Friday midnight by an order issued by police commissioner C.V. Anand. The order said that it was to maintain public order, peace and tranquility in Cyberabad.
Around 750 policemen will be deployed to provide security to the Metropolis Congress and to man the routes where the foreign delegates would be travelling, Mr Anand said. About 60 policemen will work as travel guides.
