Khammam schools need Rs100 crore
Many schools do not have power supply, toilets, furniture, a few are housed in dilapidated buildings
Khammam: Government schools in Khammam district are plagued with several problems like dilapidated buildings, lack of furniture, kitchens, toilets and compound walls and defunct computers.These facts came to light when the schools headmasters submitted reports about the pathetic conditions and sought Rs 95 crore from the education officials.
With regard to high schools, about 1,086 additional rooms and 987 toilets are required in 386 schools in the district. Over 90 schools do not have power supply and 79 of the high schools do not have proper compound walls. Another 245 schools require benches.
Similar is the condition in primary schools too.About 12 schools are functioning in dilapidated buildings which can collapse at any time. There are no toilets in 2,282 schools and there is no power supply to 301 of them.
Desks and benches are required in 2,100 primary schools. Over 283 schools need additional rooms and another 730 schools do not have compound walls. The engineering officials estimated that Rs100 crore would be necessary to provide facilities in schools.
