Central Government to back land survey
Hyderabad: The Centre has agreed to bear 60 per cent of the cost to conduct land survey in Telangana. The TS government has planned an extensive land survey in the state after Diwali at a cost of nearly Rs 600 crore.
The land survey is being conducted after a gap of nearly 80 years. The Centre will bear nearly Rs 360 crore, while the TS government will bear the remaining Rs 240 crore. The Centre released Rs 84 crore as part of its share. The money was sanctioned as part of Centre’s National Land Records and Modernisation Programme. Revenue minister Mr Mohd Mahmood Ali said the financial assistance from the Centre will make it easier for the state government to complete the land survey effectively.
“The existing land reco-rds are based on the survey conducted by Nizam government in 1930s. The government has no proper records over the extent of lands held by it. Many government and Wakf lands are encroached upon over the years. We are not in a position to take legal action against encroachers due to lack of proper records. Land disputes are increasing at an alarming rate. The land survey will resolve all these issues,” he said.
The state government sought the help of Survey of India to effectively conduct the survey. The survey is aimed at increasing transparency in ownership, reducing land disputes and ensuring fair compensation for land acquired for developmental work. The government aims to build a transparent and integrated system of real-time land records.
It will involve updating of survey and settlement records with high resolution satellite imagery and providing real-time land records. It will also entail computerisation of land records and registration, modernising record rooms, setting up record management centres and training personnel for the task.
