Wildlife photography expo in Kovai
50 photographers show wealth of Western Ghats
Coimbatore: A mega wildlife expo, ‘Uyir Nizhal 2014’, that focuses on the shola and grasslands of the Western Ghats is on at Kongunadu College of Arts and Science with about 50 wildlife photographers displaying 1,500 pictures that transport enthusiasts to the very lap of nature.
Inaugurated by conservator of forests, Salem circle, Mr V. Ganesan, the expo provides an opportunity for the public to witness the wealth of flora and fauna.
The exhibition that is being conducted for the 11th successive year is to stress the fact that water and food security depends on the survival and well-being of the forests.
The details about human-animal conflicts and the way to mitigate them are also explained by way of pictures at the expo. The importance, heritage and wealth of the Western Ghats and the participation of the public in their conservation has also been brought out through the photographs.
There are also a host of events tied to the expo including competition for students, seminar on understanding wildlife and screening of nature and wildlife documentary films.
“The photos on nature and wildlife are nothing but the shadows of wild souls which the lensmen have captured at rare moments inside the thickets and frozen them. The expo is a trip for the enthusiasts into the dark woods of the Western Ghats,” said Mr K. Kalidasan, president, Osai Foundation.
