New power plants to come up
State government exchanged the memorandum of understanding with TS GENCO
Karimnagar: With the state government exchanging the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Telangana State Generation Generation Corporation Limited (TS GENCO), new power plants are likely to be set up in Ramagundam where the state-run power producer has been operating a 62.5-MW unit since 1971.
According to the MoU, the TS GENCO, in association with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), would establish news plants in Khammam, Karimnagar and Adilabad in order to generate 6,000-MW of power. The state government entered the MoU with the two agencies following heavy power shortage.
Considering the availability of huge coal reserves and Godavari waters and land in Ramagundam, the TS GENCO may set up new plants in the town. This would enable the power producer to witness some growth as it had not been expanded since its inception. According to sources, it is likely to set up two 600 MW plants.
