MoU with BHEL for 6,000 MW thermal power plant
KCR approved proposals calling bids for 2000 MW of power for a long term basis
Hyderabad: Power starved Telangana government initiated measures on a war footing to establish 6000 MW thermal power plants in the state on ‘Engineering, Procurement and Contract’ basis besides purchasing power from other states.
The government decided to purchase 2000 MW of power to meet the needs of the state immediately. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao approved proposals calling bids for 2000 MW of power for a long term basis.
Earlier in the day, TS Genco CMD D. Prabhakar Rao and BHEL CMD B. Prasad Rao signed a MoU in the presence of the CM to establish 6000 MW thermal power plants in Telangana state on EPC basis. BHEL, a pioneer in manufacturing power plant equipment, has been roped in by the state government for establishment of power plants at Kotha-gudem and Munuguru.
BHEL has already executed thermal power projects in TS at Bhupalapally, Singareni Colleries and Koth-agudem. It will set up the project as the EPC contractor and execute the project in the next three years.
